Abstract | We present a novel method to tackle the lateral displacement estimation problem in ultrasould elasticity imaging. This method relies on using a special form of the momentum equations to filter ultrasound displacement measurements to produce more precise estimates. From precise and accurate measurements of one component of a 2D vector displacement field and very limited information of the second component, the method reconstructs the second component quite accurately. No a priori knowledge of the material properties is required. The method was tested on simulated data corrupted with noise, and the filtered lateral displacements produced improved by as much as 46%. The method was also tested with displacement data measured from a tissue mimicking phantom, and in-vivo data, and significant improvements were noticed in the filtered displacements recovered from the tests. |
